A heavy topic. The virus that's taking many lives in Africa might spread through air, and with no cure in sight, this is a serious matter. What precautions do you take, if any? What do you think it might happen?

Yeah, it's also possible for an Earthquake to happen or for the sky to fall or HIV to become airborne. I'm not taking precautions.

LOL at the people saying it could be airborne.....they have zero knowledge of Virology or Biology.

Ebola is a hemorrhagic fever (EHF). A hemorrhagic fever CANNOT BECOME AIRBORNE JUST LIKE HIV. Hence the Journalists of this article are fucking stupid or ignorant.

as if science is absolute, im not saying ebola will be airborne but here is another article about this news http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2753421/Real-risk-Ebola-virus-mutate-AIRBORNE-disease-expert-warns.html

it says there
>Dr Michael Osterholm of the University of Minnesota said virologists are privately concerned the deadly virus could mutate
>He said not enough is known about genetics to know if the virus will be able to develop to attach to the receptors in the respiratory system

so there is still risk because there are not enough information about it according to a virologist himself and his co-virologists

Agreed. Somehow, I get the feeling that all this spread panic is just another plot by the pharmaceutical industry to sell some of their products. Every normal influenca kills a lot more people worldwide.

I've been healthy for years, so I'm not going to panic or take more precautions, just how BSE, swine flu, chicken flu, Noroviruses and other potentially panic-inducing incidents didn't bother me.

I heard two US doctors that worked in Africa got the virus and were transport back to the US and are now recovering after a experimental therapy.
The truth is that pharmaceutical companies have lots of this "experimental" up their ass but they do not like giving them out because healthy people are bad for business.

The virus will of-course mutate as it infects more people and has a better chance of developing more. HOWEVER while we are at it penguins will start flying as they evolve...

The family Filoviridae include Ebola virus and Marburg virus.

The filovirus life cycle begins with virion attachment to specific cell-surface receptors, followed by fusion of the virion envelope with cellular membranes and the concomitant release of the virus nucleocapsid into the cytosol. The viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp, or RNA replicase) partially uncoats the nucleocapsid and transcribes the genes into positive-stranded mRNAs, which are then translated into structural and nonstructural proteins. Filovirus RdRps bind to a single promoter located at the 3' end of the genome. Transcription either terminates after a gene or continues to the next gene downstream.

It is mechanically impossible for a filovirus to attach itself to a Respiratory System

And also, Ebola was discovered back in 1976, why are people worried about it just now? If it was to mutate then I'd have happened already cuz it's an old disease.

because outbreak

when a contagion rapidly spreads during an outbreak, there is obviously an icrease chance for mutations

There is an imaginary risk and that is the opinion of Doctor Michael Osterholm. The basic rule of biology and virology still applies: It can't go airbone. And docotr Michael needs ARGUMENTS if he wants to prove otherwise.
